September 28th & 29th - Book Sale during school hours
September 26th & 27th - Book Fair Preview Days
September 28th & 29th - Book Sale during school hours This year, most Ohio students in grades 3-8 will take a new and different set of state achievement tests that are based on Ohio’s New Learning Standards. Both the standards and new tests reflect higher expectations for what students should know and be able to do in math, English language arts, science and social studies. The new tests also will better measure what students have learned and what they can do with their knowledge.
In grades 3-8 math, the new state tests will replace the Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA). The new tests also will replace the OAAs in grades 4-8 English language arts. All grade 3 students will take the OAA in reading this fall. Students who reach a promotion score on that test will switch to the state’s new third-grade reading test next spring. Those who do not receive a promotion score will take the OAA in reading again next spring. The new state tests also replace the grade 5 and 8 science tests and bring back the social studies tests at grades 4 and 6. Each of these state tests has two parts. The first is performance-based. Students will provide answers and explain how and why they chose them. The second part is an end-of-course exam in which students simply select responses. A student’s final score will combine the scores from both parts. If you have questions about the new state tests, contact your child’s teacher. Federal Court Instructs OH Districts to Post Information for Parents Concerning Data Release8/22/2014 A U.S. District Court has ordered that 2013-2014 school year records from the Ohio Department of Education’s Educational Management Information System be turned over to Disability Rights Ohio as part of an ongoing lawsuit.
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, families of students whose data will be released must be notified and given the opportunity to object. The court is instructing all local education agencies to post notice about this opportunity to object on their district websites and in a central location, accessible to the public, in each building that is open to the public. A copy of the notice – which includes instructions on how parents may object to the data release – can be found here. The court must receive objections no later than Sept. 12. Students' names, addresses and social security numbers are not part of the information to be released. Ohio is one of only three states that do not allow their departments of education to collect this data, to protect student privacy. Data to be released for each student include student ID number, school name, grade, gender, race, age and disability category. The records also reveal student performance on the state’s Ohio Achievement Assessments and Ohio Graduation Tests, as well as tests related to Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Student suspensions and expulsions also are listed. The data is subject to a protective order, which means Disability Rights Ohio cannot publicize it. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please contact the Ohio Department of Education’s legal office at (614) 466-4705 if you have questions. Open enrollment for the 2014-15 school year will be happening in the very near future. Please check the website or Facebook page to find out the dates to make sure your child has their seat reserved for next year before we fill up.
We would like to thank everyone that showed up and donated blood for the blood drive. The blood drive was a complete success. From the amount of blood donated, it is estimated that 93 lives could be saved. Way to go Wildwood!!
We are all extremely proud of our third grade teacher, Laura Schetter. We've recently been pleased to learn that she has been recognized as the conservation educator of 2012 for her work both in and out of the classroom. Read the full article here.

BOOK FAIR A SUCCESS The Book Fair was a smashing success. There were over $2400 in sales which provided for more than $1000 in books and materials put back into the library and classrooms. The students have only had good things to say about the books they purchased. They are really enjoying their new reading materials. During our recent Pint Sized Heroes blood drive, 24 pints of blood were donated by Wildwood parents and staff. Each pint helps to save 3 lives. It was awesome to see people waiting to donate blood. Way to GO!! Wildwood parents and staff.
I am pleased to announce that Wildwood Environmental Academy will soon have a new home! In the past year, the staff, school board, and the Leona Group have worked to secure a location where all of our students can be educated on the same campus.
Beginning this fall, we will no longer occupy the building at 2913 S. Republic. Grades 6-12 will attend classes in the new building at 1628 Henthrone Drive, directly behind the current Dartford/elementary building. The Dartford campus will continue to serve grades K-3. Depending on enrollment, the upper elementary (grades 4 and 5) may have an opportunity to move into the new Henthrone building. We will work to renovate the new location, monitor enrollment, and over the coming months share plans and details of the move. We are looking forward to collaborative efforts to enhance our academics, environmental components, and family atmosphere that our new building will provide. |
