Wildwood Environmental Academy is hosting its 2nd annual bood drive. The drive will be held February 28, 2012 from 3:00-8:00 pm in the cafeteria at the Dartford campus. We are working with American Red Cross through their Pint Size Hero program. If you would like to schedule an appointment to give blood, visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code wildwoodpint. Registration forms are also available in the office. Walk-ins will be accepted, but appointments are preferred. The goal for this year is to collect 21 units of blood. This would help to save 63 lives. Students who invites an adult to come to donate will be recognized as a Pint Size Hero.
Wildwood Environmental Academy is gearing up for the re-enrollment season. Re-enrollment papers will be coming home soon. This is the parents opportunity to enroll their children for the coming year or to enroll siblings that will be attending in the fall. Look for the papers to come home in your student's Friday folder.
Wildwood students and staff have some traditions they institute during the month of February. The kindergarten class has a wedding. Yes, a wedding. They "marry" the letters q and u in a formal ceremony complete with flower girl, bridesmaids, groomsman, and a reception. This is part of the Phonics Dance program the teachers use to help the students remember letter names, sounds, and letter combinations. Of course the parents and the third grade buddies come to be the friends and family. In addition to the marriage of q and u, each classroom celebrates with their own party complete with treats and passing out of valentines.
We are in the process of updating our Local Wellness Policy. Federal law requires that each school district review and/or update their wellness policy on an annual basis. Every public school academy, such as ours, is considered its own district. Please take a few moments to review the policy below and provide your input either as a comment, or you can email your input to Kathy Hayes. Be sure to indicate the school name in the email. The deadline for parent community feedback is Friday, December 9, 2011.
